Introduction to Veterinary Nurse Consulting

This 5-webinar series is aimed at veterinary nurses who are keen to begin to include consulting within their clinical role.  It is equally relevant for those veterinary nurses already doing some consulting who would like to expand this or improve their confidence.  The course is a short introduction to consulting; it offers suggestions for consulting opportunities that may be available in veterinary practices and provides the key skills necessary for veterinary nurses to deliver an effective consulting service.

The course provides 3 hours of CPD.

5 things relating to mental health that everyone in veterinary practice should know

Whilst veterinary practice is often a thrilling and enjoyable environment to work in, it is also an emotionally unsettling environment. This is because delivering veterinary service and care incorporates many of the themes that lead to unsettled emotional weather, a state otherwise known as dysphoria. Like unsettled weather patterns, feelings of dysphoria are inevitable – and indeed beneficial – at least to some degree. Similarly, they can pass quickly or hang around for longer than is comfortable and even become as established as an adverse climate of compromised mental health.

This webinar is kindly sponsored by Boehringer Ingelheim and took place live in May 2021 in support of Mental Health Awareness Week (10-16th May).

The psychology of 'Having a quiet word' with misbehaving colleagues

This course is relevant to anyone who finds the ‘people-management’ part of veterinary practice uncomfortable.
Many managers tolerate unexpected or undesired colleague behaviour for too long and allow molehills to turn into mountains which could have been resolved by ‘Having a quiet word’ earlier. At the same time we don’t want to jump down people’s throat’s for every misdemeanour; the challenge is to deal with issues proportionally – and informally.
The webinars will look at how we can prevent frustrating behaviour using many of the day-to-day management processes that represent a 'soft' approach to learning and development. We will also cover why various personality types are better at having – and receiving - a quiet word if needed. We will look at how to have a difficult conversation but in a constructive manner and how to decide if, when, and how to escalate your approach to a more formal disciplinary process.

5 things that every role in veterinary practice needs to know

Every veterinary practice needs to achieve 4 outcomes:

  • Good clinical outcomes
  • Good client satisfaction outcomes
  • Good financial outcomes
  • Good team outcomes

Each of the 4 roles (vets, nurses, receptionists and management) within practice needs to contribute to these outcomes in different ways.

This session will look at 5 things that every role in veterinary practice needs to know and do in order for this to happen.

Please note: this webinar originally took place as a live event on Thursday 14th January 2021.
