Course Content

Focusing very much on the 'how' aspects of consulting the course will provide veterinary nurses with the key skills required to feel prepared for any type of consultation, ready to anticipate potential challenges and opportunities and manage these confidently.

After an initial Introductory Module which sets the groundwork for the rest of the course, students move on to look at the Legislation that affects the veterinary professions and then the all important subjects of Client Satisfaction and Wellbeing and Morale where self-doubt and confidence are explained and discussed.

The Core Clinical Module considers those consultations that  many veterinary nurses might be expected to be performing in veterinary practices and after working through these webinars, students will then begin their first consultations case-log (that focuses on cases from these areas).

The Financial Resolution module considers that often difficult subject of money and students will complete this as well as the first consultations case-log before progressing to the Advanced Clinical Content module.

This Advanced Clinical Content module looks at more complex consultations that veterinary nurses can do and having completed the online course to this point the students will begin their second consultations case-log (that includes a wider range of consultation types than the first).

The Advanced Client Satisfaction module explores some of the potentially more difficult client interactions we can experience in veterinary practice and the Commercial Aspects of Nurse Consulting module which follows considers how to make ideas and plans for a veterinary nurse consulting service in practice a reality.

There will also be two Workshop Training days that must be completed:

  • Confidence, Communication & Professional Responsibility
  • Delegation, Direction & Legislation

Written course work is required in relation to these days.

Having completed these workshops and the online part of the course, the students will submit their second consultations case-log and any remaining course work  before being invited to enter for the exam, which takes the form of a piece of written work and then a final professional conversation before being awarded the CertNCS (RVN Cons).

There is no time limit on the completion of this course.
